The Benue State House of Assembly has elected Honourable Alfred Aondover Emberga as new Speaker.
The “swift” process that brought in Hon. Emberga received commendation from Hyacinth Alia, Executive Governor of Benue State.
Alia congratulated Hon. Emberga, who represents Makurdi North State Constituency, and described his election as “a testament to the confidence reposed in him by his colleagues”.
Hon. Emberga takes over from Rt. Hon. Aondona Dajoh.
A Statement by the Benue State Government titled ‘Gov. Alia congratulates Emberga over emergence as Speaker, Benue State House of Assembly’, signed by Sir Tersoo Kula, mnipr, Chief Press Secretary to the Governor of Benue State, on Monday 25 August, 2025, reads: “Governor Hyacinth Iormem Alia, extends his warm congratulations to the member representing Makurdi North State Constituency, Honourable Alfred Aondover Emberga, over his election as the new Speaker of the 10th Benue State House of Assembly (BSHA).
“Hon. Emberga was elected as the new Speaker on Sunday, August 24, 2025, during an emergency sitting after the voluntary resignation of Rt. Hon. Hyacinth Aondona Dajoh.
“Governor Alia who commends the swift process that led to the emergence of a new leader of the legislative arm of government in the State, says the election of Hon. Emberga is a testament to the confidence reposed in him by his colleagues and a reflection of his commitment and ability to uphold democratic values.
“He expresses confidence that under the leadership of Honourable Emberga, the Benue State House of Assembly will continue to work tirelessly towards the formulation and enactment of laws and policies aimed at improving the lives of the people of the State.
“He calls on the legislative arm of government to continue to maintain a strong and cordial relationship with the executive and Judiciary arms, insisting that it is only through collaboration and cooperation that the state can be able to achieve sustainable development and deliver dividends of democracy that will reach every citizen.
