President of France, Emmanuel Macron, has said, the withdrawal of the United States (US) from the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) does not have the capability to “weaken or unwavering support and commitment” for the body.
UNESCO is a “universal guardian” of science, ocean, education, as well as, world heritage.
As part of US President, Donald Trump’s America First policy, the US State Department announced, America will pull out of the Paris-base UN Organization.
President Macron posted on X: “Unwavering support for UNESCO, a universal guardian of science, the Ocean, education, culture, and world heritage. The withdrawal of the United States will not weaken our commitment alongside those who lead this fight.”
The US withdrawal will take effect in December 2026.
In February, the White House had made known a 90-day review of America’s membership of UNESCO, saying in a statement that the global body had “demonstrated failure to reform itself, has continually demonstrated anti-Israel sentiment over the past decade, and has failed to address concerns over mounting arrears”.
