Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, has expressed “deep shock and sadness” following the loss of lives in the “tragic” air crash in Dhaka in Bangladesh.

The Indian PM extended his condolences to the bereaved families, and assured India stands ready to extend support to Bangladesh.

Almost twenty (20) people have been confirmed dead after an Air Force jet crashed into a school campus.

More than 100 have sustained injuries and taken to nearby hospitals.

In his condolence message on X, PM Modi wrote: “Deeply shocked and saddened at the loss of lives, many of them young students, in a tragic air crash in Dhaka. Our hearts go out to the bereaved families. We pray for the swift recovery of those injured. India stands in solidarity with Bangladesh and is ready to extend all possible support and assistance.”

Bangladesh has announced a day of mourning on Tuesday, when the national flag will be flown at half-mast all over the country.

Scores of people rushed towards the crash site, where emergency crews could be seen fighting to kill the smoking wreckage of the jet.
