‘Nigeria not a dumping ground for migrants’ – MFA rejects Trump’s pressure to accept Venezuelan deportees

Honourable Minister of Foreign Affairs (MFA), Yusuf Tuggar, has “publicly rejected” pressure from the President of the United States (US), Donald Trump, to accept Venezuelans deportees.

The Minister made it clear that, “Nigeria would not serve as a dumping ground for migrants.”

President Trump has said, his government will deport all illegal immigrants in the United States (US). During his campaign in 2024, the 47th US President said, he would carry out the largest deportation in the history of America, and ensure America is safe again.

Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to President Tinubu on Information and Strategy, posted on X: “On Thursday, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar, publicly rejected what he described as pressure from the administration of U.S. President Donald Trump to accept Venezuelan deportees, saying Nigeria would not serve as a dumping ground for migrants unrelated to its geopolitical obligations.”
