Newcastle United have expressed “deep sadness” at the passing of former Wwlelsh forward, Wyn Davies.
Davies passed at the age of eighty-three (83).
The forward was Born in Caernarfon in 1942. Davies enjoyed a beautiful career in the 1960s and 70s playing for teams including Wrexham, Bolton Wanderers, Newcastle United and both Manchester clubs City and United.
Nicknamed ‘Wyn the Leap’ due to his heading prowess, the 6ft 1in forward featured for Wales 34 times, netting six goals, while he is still revered at Newcastle where he was also known as ‘The Mighty Wyn’.
In its tribute on X, Newcastle United wrote: “We are deeply saddened by the passing of our former player, Wyn Davies at the age of 83.
“‘Wyn the Leap’ made over 200 appearances for the club and was part of our 1969 Inter-Cities Fairs Cup winning side.
“Our thoughts are with Wyn’s family and friends at this sad time.”
A Statement from the Football Association of Wales reads: “The thoughts of everyone at the FAW are with the family and friends of Wyn Davies during this difficult time.”
In his retirement, Davies worked as a baker in Bolton.
