The trial of Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed, former Governor of Kwara State, is currently ongoing.
Ahmed alongside his finance Commissioner, Alhaji Ademola Banu, are being tried in a case of alleged misappropriation of funds to the tune of ₦5.78 billion.
They were accused of conniving to divert funds to the sum of ₦5.78 billion meant to be use to pay the salaries of teachers under the Kwara State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB).
According to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC): “Trial is currently ongoing in a case of alleged misappropriation of funds to the tune of N5.78 billion, involving Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed, former governor, Kwara State and his finance Commissioner, Alhaji Ademola Banu.
“The trial is before Justice Mahmud Abdulgafar of the Kwara State High Court sitting in Ilorin. Ahmed and his co-defendant were accused of conspiring to divert funds to the tune of N5.78billion meant for the payment of teachers’ salaries under the Kwara State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), the provision of basic infrastructure for primary and junior secondary schools, and security initiatives in the state.
“At today’s sitting, proceedings were expected to continue with the testimony of the former Accountant General of Kwara State, Alhaji Suleiman Oluwadare Ishola, who is one of the prosecution’s key witnesses in the case.”
Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed served as Governor of Kwara State from 2011 to 2019.
