Ogun State: Photos – Olumo Rock undergoing ‘comprehensive facelift’

Olumo Rock, a mountain in Abeokuta, Ogun State is currently undergoing a “comprehensive facelift”.

Governor of the Southwestern State, Dapo Abiodun, who visited the site on Wednesday 4 June, 2025, said, he assessed the progress of work firsthand to “ensure that the ongoing renovations strictly adhere to the specified standards.”

Governor Abiodun said: “Yesterday, we visited the Oluomo Rock tourist site, which is currently undergoing a comprehensive facelift, to assess the progress of work and ensure that the ongoing renovations strictly adhere to the specified standards.”

The Governor said, his administration is committed to ensuring the progress of tourism, as well as, the preservation of the State’s “cultural heritage”.

He said, the focus on transforming “Oluomo Rock” into a world-class destination” remains unwavering, with the aim that it “reflects the beauty and history of our beloved Ogun State”.

Abiodun who inspected the progress of work at the Olumo Rock in the company of top government officials expressed his confidence in the contractors at site.

The Governor said, when the work is completed “Oluomo Rock will not only attract more visitors but also create new opportunities for local economic development, job creation, and community pride”, adding, “our vision for a vibrant, modern, and culturally rich Ogun State remains on course”.

Governor Abiodun said: “As a government committed to promoting tourism and preserving our cultural heritage, we remain focused on transforming Oluomo Rock into a world-class destination that reflects the beauty and history of our beloved Ogun State. I was accompanied on this inspection by some of our top government officials, and together, we reviewed the quality of work being done and reinforced our expectations with the contractors on site.

“We are confident that upon completion, Oluomo Rock will not only attract more visitors but also create new opportunities for local economic development, job creation, and community pride. Our vision for a vibrant, modern, and culturally rich Ogun State remains on course.”

Olumo Rock is a mountain in south-western region of Nigeria. It is located in Abeokuta, Capital City of Ogun State, and was normally used as a natural fortress during inter-tribal warfare in the 19th century. The name olumo is the amalgamation of two words: “olu” which means god/deity, and “mo” which means moulded.
