Brentford has signed Irish goalkeeper Caoimhín Kelleher from Kings of England, Liverpool, on a permanent deal.
The Republic of Ireland international has put pen to paper for a five-year contract; the club has an option to extend his stay by a further 12 months.
Kelleher, a two-time Premier League winner, exits Arne Slot’s Reds having recorded sixty-seven (67) appearances across all competitions, clinching 24 clean sheets.
Phil Giles, Director of football, said: “I am very pleased to welcome Caoimhín to Brentford. We have scouted him in the past and were aware that he had a year to go on his contract with Liverpool this summer.
“When Mark Flekken had the opportunity to move to Bayer Leverkusen, we immediately thought about Caoimhín as his replacement.
“As well as being a very good goalkeeper, I’ve rarely met a player for whom everybody has such positive words to say about his personality and character. I’m therefore confident he’ll be an excellent addition to the squad.”
Manu Sotelo, First-team goalkeeper coach, said: “Caoimhín is a young keeper full of talent who has already proven how he can perform in the Premier league as well as Europe.
“He is calm and obsessed with improving. His best quality is his agility and he is a clever goalkeeper, with positioning and awareness being key elements of his game.
“With us, I’m confident he will achieve the next level in terms of performance and show the potential he has.
“I’m looking forward to working with him.”
Kelleher was born in Cork, he joined Liverpool in the summer of 2015 from Ringmahon Rangers, scaling through the youth ranks before establishing himself as a member of the first-team squad.
The Irishman, 26-year-old, got his first taste of silverware in 2019 when he was named amongst the substitutes for the 2-0 Uefa Champions League final win against Tottenham Hotspur.
He lifted another trophy followed that August in the form of the UEFA Super Cup before he made his competitive debut for the club in a 2-0 Carabao Cup victory against Milton Keynes Dons a month later.
Kelleher and Liverpool – who also celebrated FA Cup triumph in 2022 – defeated the Blues again to clinch the Carabao Cup at Wembley with a 1-0 win after extra-time.
He recorded 26 appearances in 2023/24 – including in Liverpool’s 4-1 win over the Bees at Gtech Community Stadium that February – and 20 in the most recent campaign, with 10 of those outings in each season happening in the Premier League.
Having represented his country, The Republic of Ireland, at Under-17s, Under-18s, Under-19s and Under-21s level, he made his senior international debut in June 2021 in an international friendly away at Hungary.
