South Africa has said, it will never stop expressing gratitude to Nigeria’s revolutionary leader, Nnamdi Azikiwe, who served as the 3rd and first black governor-general of Nigeria from 1960 to 1963 and the first president of Nigeria during the First Nigerian Republic (1963–1966), “for contributing to the transformation of our wonderful continent.”
The statement was made by Deputy President of South Africa, Paulus Shipokosa Mashatile; he also expressed gratitude to Thomas Sankara, a Burkinabe military officer; as well as, Patrice Lumumba, a Congolese Politician.
Mashatile said: “We will always be grateful to Thomas Sankara, Nnamdi Azikiwe, Milton Obote, Patrice Lumumba, Kenneth Kaunda, Samora Machel, and other leaders who contributed to the transformation of our wonderful continent.”
