The English Premier League will have nine (9) teams in European competitions next season; Man City, Chelsea and Newcastle clinched Champions League places on the final day; Aston Villa will feature in the Europa League; Nottingham Forest will play in the Conference League.
The 2024/25 Premier League season has been successfully completed, with a closely fought battle on the final day for the final European spots.
Five (5) teams were in the battle for the Champions League heading into the games, some of those teams ended in Europa League and Conference League places – and a few missing out altogether.
Champions League (6)
Liverpool, as league winners, were assured of a Champions League spot next season. Arsenal had also clinched their place prior to the final day of the Premier League 2024/25.
Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City concluded three points behind Mikel Arteta’s Gunners in third place, and two ahead of Chelsea, who discomfited fellow Champions League hopefuls Nottingham Forest 1-0. They finished in fourth place.
Eddie Howe’s Newcastle United secured the final spot in the competition as fifth place finishers, despite falling to Everton on the final day. Tottenham Hotspur will also feature in the Champions League next season as Europa League winners.
Ange Postecoglou led the Spurs to a 1-0 triumph over Manchester United in the Uefa Europa League final, thanks to Brennan Johnson’s 42nd minute goal.
Europa League (2)
Unai Emery’s Aston Villa finished level on 66 points with Newcastle United, however, with a hugely worse goal difference. They were downed 2-0 by Man Utd on the final day at Old Trafford. The Villans will be joined by FA Cup winners Crystal Palace in the Europa League next season.
Europa Conference League (1)
Despite being in the struggle for Champions League football heading into the final day, Nuno Espirito Santo’s Nottingham Forest had to settle for a Conference League spot after their fall to Chelsea at City Ground.
