Depardieu was found guilty Tuesday of sexually assaulting two women on the set of a movie in which he starred in 2021 and given an 18-month suspended prison sentence.
The film star was also fined a total of 29,040 euros (around $32,350), and the court requested that he be registered in the national sex offender database.
Depardieu, biggest film star in France who has made more than 200 films and TV series, is the highest-profile figure in the French film industry to be convicted of sexual assault since the #MeToo movement.
76-year-old Depardieu, who was absent in court for the verdict, was convicted of sexually assaulting a 54-year-old set dresser and a 34-year-old assistant director during the shooting of the feature film Les Volets Verts (The Green Shutters) in Paris in September 2021.
Jérémie Assous, his lawyer, said he would appeal against the verdict.
