Bayern Munich attacking midfielder, Jamal Musiala, said, the UCL knockout play-off against Celtic on Tuesday night “won’t be an easy game”, adding, “we saw what it was like in Glasgow”.
Musiala continued, “We have to prepare well, make sure we are fresh and mentally ready. We have to be playing at 100%, not let up and start strong right away.”
German Bundesliga club, Bayern Munich, will host Scottish Premiership club, Celtic, in the Uefa Champions League 2024/25 Knockout Play-off at Allianz Arena on Tuesday 18 February, 2025 at 21:00 (WAT); in the first leg at Glasgow, Vincent Kompany led the Bavarians to a 2-1 triumph.
At his press conference ahead of the match, Musiala said:
On the balance in his own game:
“We have had a lot of possession this season. We have never experienced anything like what happened against Leverkusen, where we had to defend so much. It was a good experience – something like that had to happen at some point, so we can learn from it. We can take that with us into the upcoming games.
“The mood in the team is positive. We didn’t have our best day in Leverkusen – and still didn’t lose, which is a good sign for the whole team. There is a lot we can do better, but the team spirit, the ability to fight, to keep a clean sheet, is something we need if we want to go far.”
On his development on the pitch:
“I have always been very self-critical since I was young. I always look at what I can do better. So I know the pressure and I put it on myself. What I’m learning now is that I don’t read comments on social media, I don’t look at social media. You don’t need to. I work hard to improve in other areas – and I have to push myself to want to get better.”
On Celtic:
“It won’t be an easy game. We saw what it was like in Glasgow. We have to prepare well, make sure we are fresh and mentally ready. We have to be playing at 100%, not let up and start strong right away – and we hope that we win!”
On Bayern Munich’s strong home form:
“For us, the focus is mostly just on ourselves, to make sure we do everything right, bring the right intensity and energy into the game – and only then adapt to how the opponent plays. We just prepare for what we can do.”
