Netherlands V Israel: Four handed jail terms for vi*lence against football fans in Amsterdam

Four (4) rioters have bagged short jail terms for violence against football fans visiting the city of Amsterdam for a Uefa Europa League match between Eredivisie club, Ajax Amsterdam, and Israeli Premier League club, Maccabi Tel-Aviv.

32-year old Sefa Ö was given the longest sentence of six (6) months in jail by Amsterdam district court, while another man was given ten (10) weeks and two others a month’s detention each.

A fifth defendant was handed a community service order under the Netherlands’ juvenile law.

According to the Judge, a prison sentence for the four (4) was right due to the seriousness of the actions as well as the context in which they occurred.

The riots broke out in several areas of Amsterdam, the Capital City of the Netherlands in early November and led to international condemnation.
