This day 3 of our National Chairman’s visit in Washington, DC, was a day filled with insightful lectures leading up to the final voting stage of the U.S. election.
The day began with a keynote lecture addressing the challenges faced by democracies globally, including the United States. The speaker highlighted these issues and offered solutions, sharing practical examples of the steps the U.S. has taken to build trust in its electoral system.
Throughout the day, other distinguished speakers and panelists delved into the intricacies of the U.S. Electoral System. Key discussions centered on the Electoral College, the role of technology in enhancing efficiency, transparency, and accountability, and the decentralized structure that defines the U.S. electoral framework. A key takeaway was the importance of building sustainable trust in elections.
The afternoon sessions covered a range of topics essential to modern democracies, including Diaspora voting, the impact of “Dollarization” on democracy, Youth engagement, political involvement, and deepfake awareness training for electoral stakeholders.
With over 60 countries participating, this event has offered a profound look into American democracy. It is my hope that one day Nigeria, too, will rise to a level where people from around the world or at least across Africa will come to learn from our experiences and view our democratic system as a role model.
