Lloyd J. Austin, United States (US) Secretary of Defense, has tagged the elimination of Yahya Sinwar “major achievement in counterterrorism”.

Yahya Sinwar, leader of Hamas, was eliminated by Israel Defence Forces (IDF) in Gaza on Thursday 17 October, 2024.
Via a statement, Austin said, “The killing of Yahya Sinwar, the leader of the terrorist group Hamas, by Israeli forces is a major achievement in counterterrorism. Sinwar’s death will not heal the wounds of October 7th, but I hope that it may bring some solace to the victims of Sinwar’s cruelty.”
IDF Spox, Daniel Hagari, said: “Since the beginning of this war that Sinwar started on October 7 — we’ve said: Our war is with Hamas, not the people of Gaza. We mean it.”
