Hurricane Helene: TDH deploy Mental Health Strike Team to Northeast Tennessee

Following Hurricane Helene, the Tennessee Department of Health deployed a Mental Health Strike Team to Northeast Tennessee.

It said, “after a disaster, it’s normal to feel stressed, anxious or overwhelmed.”

The State of Tennessee was one of the US States struck by Hurricane Helene – other states include, Florida, North Carolina, Georgia.

The powerful storm killed more than two hundred (200) people with North Carolina recording the highest number.

According to Tennessee Emergency Management Agency (TEMA): “After a disaster, it’s normal to feel stressed, anxious or overwhelmed.


In coordination for #Helene response, the Tennessee Department of Health deployed a Mental Health Strike Team to Northeast Tennessee. The team, made up of 18 members of the Tennessee Federation of Fire Chaplains, supported:


• 4,400 one-on-one debriefings

• 450 consultations

• 2,900 hours worked in affected counties “
