The US President gave Zelenskyy the assurance on Ukraine’s Independence Day today, Saturday 24 August, 2024, and tagged Russia’s invasion on Ukraine “senseless”.

Ukraine became an independent country on 24 August, 1991.

The US President wrote: “Today, as the people of Ukraine mark their Independence Day, let it be clear:

When Russia’s senseless war began, Ukraine was a free country.

Today, it is still a free country.

And the war will end with Ukraine remaining a free, sovereign, and independent country.”

President Zelenskyy replied: “Thank you,

@POTUS, for this important message on our Independence Day, which speaks to Ukrainian hearts. We are aware of how many Americans hold Ukraine in their hearts. Both of our nations cherish freedom and independence and we are deeply grateful for the bipartisan, steadfast, and multifaceted US support in defending our shared ideals against aggression and terror.”
