US Presidential Election 2024: World Leaders condemn Trump attack

Leader around the world have condemned the assassination attempt on former US President, Donald Trump.

Mr Trump was shot at on Saturday 13 July, 2024 at his campaign rally in Pennsylvania.

His security agents covered and moved him away from the area without any major injury, however, his ear was wounded.

The FBI identified 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks as the man suspected of carrying out the attack. He has been killed.

World Leaders’ reactions to attack on Trump:

President of the US, Joe Biden:

“I have been briefed on the shooting at Donald Trump’s rally in Pennsylvania. 

 

I’m grateful to hear that he’s safe and doing well. I’m praying for him and his family and for all those who were at the rally, as we await further information.

 

Jill and I are grateful to the Secret Service for getting him to safety. There’s no place for this kind of violence in America. We must unite as one nation to condemn it.”

Emmanuel Macron, President of France:

“My thoughts are with President Donald Trump, the victim of an assassination attempt. I send him my wishes for a speedy recovery. A spectator has died, several are injured. It is a tragedy for our democracies. France shares the shock and indignation of the American people.”

Prime Minister of Canada, Justin Trudeau:

“I’m sickened by the shooting at former President Trump. It cannot be overstated — political violence is never acceptable. My thoughts are with former President Trump, those at the event, and all Americans.”

Prime Minister of the United Kingdom (UK), Keir Starmer:

“I am appalled by the shocking scenes at President Trump’s rally and we send him and his family our best wishes.


Political violence in any form has no place in our societies and my thoughts are with all the victims of this attack.”

German Chancellor, Bundeskanzler Olaf Scholz:

“The attack on US presidential candidate Donald Trump is despicable. I wish him a speedy recovery. My thoughts are also with all of those who were affected by the attack. Such acts of violence threaten democracy.”
