Comoros joins WTO ‘after years of negotiations’

The Union of Comoros has acceded to the World Trade Organization (WTO) following “years of negotiations and reform to meet WTO requirements for membership”.

This was disclosed by Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Director-General of the World Trade Organization (WTO).

She also made known that, Timor-Leste, a country in Asia, has joined the WTO, adding, the WTO now has “166 members”.

In her congratulatory message to Comoros and Timor-Leste, Okonjo-Iweala said: “Comoros and Timor Leste accede to the 

@WTO after years of negotiations and reform to meet WTO requirements for membership! A huge Congratulations to President @PR_AZALI of the Union of Comoros and his delegation! As well as President @JoseRamosHorta1 and his delegation! This is the first accession after 8 years and the WTO family is excited. We are now 166 members!”
