The National Orientation Agency, Nigeria has shared the significance of Ash Wednesday.
It said, “the ashes represent both mortality and contrition”, and “commemorates with all Christian faithful and encourages them use this opportunity to pray for our dear country, Nigeria”.

According to the NOA: “The significance of Ash Wednesday
“The ashes represent both mortality and contrition. In this season, Christians express contrition and sorrow for their transgressions. Ash Wednesday holds significance as it initiates the Lenten season preceding Easter.
“NOA commemorates with all Christian faithful and encourages them use this opportunity to pray for our dear country, Nigeria.”
