Press Release – Minister of State for environment visits NAGGW

Dr. Iziaq Adekunle Salako, Honourable Minister of State for Environment visited the National Agency for the Great Green Wall (NAGGW) and urged not to be static but to be dynamic and move with time as it works towards actualizing the Agency’s mandate.

HONOURABLE MINISTER OF STATE FOR ENVIRONMENT VISITS NAGGW

Honourable Minister of State for Environment, Dr. Iziaq Adekunle Salako urged National Agency for the Great Green Wall, NAGGW not to be static but to be dynamic and move with time in actualizing the mandate of the Agency.

The Minister disclosed this today when he paid official familiarization visit to the Agency in Abuja.

Dr. Salako emphasized on more collaboration and cooperation with Departments and other Agencies of the ministry, noting the significance of NAGGW in Nigeria’s economic growth in fulfilling its mandate of mitigating climate change, combating desertification, desert encroachment and land degradation by positively affecting the livelihood of the affected communities in the eleven frontline operational states.

He added that the Agency should take steps to support other environmental challenges outside the eleven frontline states that are relevant to its mandate. 

 

The Director General NAGGW, Dr. Yusuf Maina Bukar, represented by the Director Finance and Administration ,Dr Hassan Ndanusa expressed gratitude to the Honourable Minister and his team for the visit and also highlighted the Agency’s core mandate, activities, achievements, challenges and progress made in transforming Nigerian Drylands of its eleven frontline states of Kano, Jigawa, Katsina, Kebbi, Sokoto, Borno, Bauchi, Gombe, Adamawa, Yobe and Zamfara to the Minister.

Dr. Yusuf assured the Honourable Minister of the Agency’s readiness to achieve the Renewed Hope Agenda of the new administration.

It could be recalled that National Agency for the Great Green Wall was established in 2015 by Establishment Act of the Parliament to combat desertification.
