South Africa clinched their first ever FIFA Women’s World Cup victory with a 3-2 win over Italy in the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023 on Wednesday 2 August, 2023, thanks to a very late winner from Thembi Kgatlana.

Kgatlana’s goal came in the 2nd minute of additional time to help the Bayana Bayana scale through into the round of 16 of the tournament.

The Italians were heartbroken at the final whistle as they only needed a draw to reach the last 16.

South Africa will lock horns with Netherlands in the knockouts on Sunday.
