India: US worried after women paraded naked

The United States (US) has expressed fret following reports of a video that showed two women being paraded naked in Manipur State, north-eastern region of the country.

The sad incident occurred close to three months ago, however, became public few days back, after the video went viral, igniting outrage across the world.

A spokesperson of the US described the incident as “brutal” and “terrible”, as reported by Reuters.

India has not made any comment to the statement.

Arindam Bagchi, Foreign Ministry Spokesperson, said, he is yet to see the comments made by Eric Garcetti, US Ambassador, personally, however, Foreign Diplomats normally did not comment on India’s “internal developments”.

Tensions have escalated in Manipur where ethnic clashes between the majority Meitei group and the tribal Kuki minority have killed more than 130 people and displaced nearly 60,000 since May.

Opposition lawmakers interrupted parliament monsoon’s session in Delhi, Capital, calling for a debate on the issue in Manipur.

Also, they have demanded that Prime Minister Narendra Modi address the issue in Parliament.
