36 new private universities approved by FEC

On Monday, the Federal Executive Council (FEC) gave the approval for the establishment of thirty-six (36) new private universities across Nigeria following a memo submitted by the Federal Ministry of Education.

Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu, after the Federal Executive Council (FEC) Meeting presided over by the Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, briefing journalists, said, with the approval, there are now a total of seventy-two (72) universities in the country.

Adamu said, the approval was granted considering how essential education is in buttressing the economy of Nigeria.
