Sudan Unrest: ‘First batch of trapped Nigerian citizens currently being moved to Egypt’ – Ahmad

Bashir Ahmad, Special Assistant on Digital Communication to President Muhammadu Buhari, has confirmed, “first batch of trapped Nigerian citizens are currently being moved from Khartoum to Egypt”.

According to Ahmad, the “trapped Nigerian citizens”, on arrival in Egypt will be “airlifted to Nigeria”.

Nigerian citizens have been trapped in Sudan since inception of the unrest in the North African country.

The unrest in Sudan is as a result of a heavy fighting between the Army of Sudan and the paramilitary force.

The fighting has resulted to the loss of hundreds of lives with several others suffering various degrees of injury.

Ahmad made known that, the Director General of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Mustapha H. Ahmed, alongside the Nigerian Ambassador to Egypt, H.E. Nura Rimi, are both in Cairo, Egypt “preparing for the arrival of the first batch of Nigerian citizens from Khartoum”.

Ahmad disclosed: “The DG of @NEMANigeria, Mustapha H. Ahmed, with the Nigerian Ambassador to Egypt, H.E. Nura Rimi, in Cairo, preparing for the arrival of the first batch of trapped Nigerian citizens, who are currently being moved from Khartoum to Egypt before being airlifted to Nigeria.”
