Adesanya, who fights for New Zealand, knocked out the Brazilian in the second round to avenge his only UFC defeat at middleweight.
The Nigerian-born opted for a quick rematch following a defeat in November by Pereira which saw him lose the 185-pound (84kg) championship belt he had held since 2019.
With two right hands, at UFC 287 at the Kaseya Centre late on Saturday, Adesanya downed the middleweight champion Pereira, then lifted his fists in victory as he took back his middleweight championship belt.
This outcome has cemented Adesanya’s legacy as one of the greatest fighters in the history of the sport.
