The United States (US) and United Kingdom (UK) have sent congratulatory messages to Nigeria’s President-elect, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Tinubu emerged winner of the tightly-contested 2023 Presidential elections which was conducted on Saturday 25 February, 2023.
The former Governor of Lagos State defeated Peter Obi of the Labour Party (LP); Alhaji Atiku Abubakar of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP); Rabiu Kwakwanso, former Governor of Kano State and the Presidential candidate of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP); as well as other Presidential candidates of other parties.
The United States (US), through Ned Price, State Department Spokesman, said: “The United States congratulates the people of Nigeria, president-elect Tinubu and all the political leaders.
“This competitive election represents a new period for Nigerian politics and democracy.
“We understand that many Nigerians and some of the parties have expressed frustration about the manner in which the process was conducted.
“We call on all parties to refrain from violence or inflammatory rhetoric at this critical time.”
The United Kingdom (UK), through its Prime Minister, Rishi Sunak, said: “Congratulations to Bola Ahmed Tinubu on his victory in Nigeria.
“The UK-Nigeria relationship remains strong. I look forward to working together to grow our security and trade ties, opening up opportunities for businesses and creating prosperity in both our countries.”
