Account holders received a message which reads: “You are over the daily limit for sending Tweets.”

Downdetector, the website for outage-tracking reported the issue before midnight on Wednesday.

New owner, Elon Musk, cut Twitter’s workforce over the last few months after acquiring the platform in October, 2022 for $44bn.

Experts have been issuing warnings for months, that such huge cuts could result to technical problems, however, it remains unknown whether the slashed workforce was to blame for the outage on Wednesday.

It seems part of the outage was fixed quickly as many users reported they could tweet.

The number of users affected by the outage remains unclear.

Twitter said: “Twitter may not be working as expected for some of you. Sorry for the trouble. We’re aware and working to get this fixed.”
