Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, 2023 Presidential candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), has sent his “deepest condolences” to families of victims of the accident which happened in Lagos between a 40ft container truck and a commercial minibus (korope).
The unfortunate incident which occurred in the Ojuelegba area of Lagos on Sunday 29 January, 2023 killed nine on the spot.
One victim who was trapped in the minibus was rescued by Operatives of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA).
Tinubu, in his condolence message, hailed the “proposed partnership between the Federal Ministry of Works and Housing and the Lagos State Government to install Vehicle/Truck barriers on the inward and outward sections of the bridge”.
He wrote: “I send my deepest condolences to the families of the victims of the terrible tragedy involving a container-laden truck and a commercial bus in Ojuelegba, Lagos State.
“This ugly incident underscores the urgent need to deepen efforts to ensure the safe and responsible movement of people and goods on our highways.
“The proposed partnership between the Federal Ministry of Works and Housing and the Lagos State Government to install Vehicle/Truck barriers on the inward and outward sections of the bridge with the aim of regulating access, particularly to heavy-duty trucks, is a welcome step that must be completed in good time to avert another disaster.
“I pray that the Almighty comforts the bereaved and grants eternal peace to those whose lives were lost.”
