Grammy Awards 2023: President Buhari praises Tems for placing ‘Nigeria in the spotlight for excellence’

President Muhammadu Buhari has hailed singer Temilade Openiyi, professionally known as, Tems, after she clinched a prize at the Grammy Awards 2023.

The ceremony took place at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, United States (US) on Sunday.

Tems clinched the award under the Category ‘Best Melodic Rap Performance’ for her beautiful contribution to American rapper, Future’s hit songs ‘Wait For U’, featuring Canadian rapper, Drake.

In the State House Press Release, President Buhari praises “Tems, Temilade Openiyi, for showcasing her talent to the world”.

Another Nigerian musician, Damini Ebunoluwa Ogulu, professionally known as, Burna Boy, was nominated in two categories, however, did not win a prize.

Burna Boy got nominated in ‘Best Global Music performance’ and ‘Global Music Album’.

President Buhari also praised the ‘Last Last’ crooner despite not clinching an award on Sunday in the US.

Buhari extolled the record producer for “continuously reinventing global entertainment, with creativity”.

President Muhammadu Buhari joins fans and lovers of Nigerian music all over the world in celebrating new heights of recognition and appreciation as Afrobeat crooner, Tems, wins “‘Best Melodic Rap Performance” category at the Grammy Awards.

President Buhari extols Tems, Temilade Openiyi, for showcasing her talent to the world, with dedication and hard work, which, again, has placed Nigeria in the spotlight for excellence.

The President lauds all Nigerian nominees for this year’s Grammy, including Burna Boy, for pursuing their passion with vigour and continously reinventing global entertainment, with creativity.

President Buhari thanks the creative industry, particularly managers, producers and directors, for encouraging talents, like Tems, who have taken Nigeria’s culture and tourism to the world, further displaying the resourcefulness and potentials of a great nation.

The President wishes Tems, her partners, colleagues and well-wishers more years of glory.
