Carabao Cup: Southampton 0-1 Newcastle United – Joelinton goal enough for Magpies, Duje caleta-car sees red

A goal from Joelinton against Southampton was enough for Newcastle United to place one foot in the Carabao Cup final.

The Carabao Cup semi final (first leg) match at the St. Mary’s Stadium saw the encounter kick off with a brilliant tempo.

The Magpies clinched their breakthrough in the 75th minute, at a time when Southampton were really dominating.

Former Newcastle United player, Adam Armstrong, had his equalizer for the Saints cancelled for handball.

Five minutes from full time, Southampton player, Duje Caleta-Car, was red carded for bringing Allan Saint-Maximin down.

Newcastle United wrote: “We take a one goal lead into the second leg!”
