The harsh weather in California has also placed hundreds of thousands of homes and businesses out of power.

The state of emergency declared in the state authorizes the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to execute disaster relief works as well as gather emergency resources, the White House said via a statement.

Last week, highly unpleasant weather resulted to violent wind gusts which overthrew trucks, flooded the streets of small towns along Northern California’s coast.
