President Volodymyr Zelensky has made it clear that his country, Ukraine, will “never surrender” to Russia, as he begs the United States (US) President, Joe Biden, to “help defend our values and independence”.
Zelensky said, the aid his country enjoys from the US is not charity but an investment in security for the future.
The Ukraine President who travelled to Washington, on a US Air Force jet from the Polish city of Rzeszow, said: “regardless of changes in the Congress”, still holds firm to the belief that, his country would get a bipartisan support.
US President Joe Biden has assured he will stay by Ukraine “for as long as it takes”.
Biden told newsmen at a joint press conference, he was “not at all worried” as regards holding the international coalition together.
According to the BBC:
Mr Biden pledged a new $2bn (£1.7bn) aid package and promised another $45bn.
Mr Zelensky in his usual combat shirt and boots was hopeful that the Congress would send aid to Ukraine as he asks the US Senate to “help us to defend our values and independence”.
He said: “The Russians’ tactic is primitive. They burn down and destroy everything they see. They sent convicts to the front lines, to the war. They threw everything against us, similar to the other tyranny, which in the Battle of the Bulge threw everything it had against the free world.
“Just like the brave American soldiers who held their lines and fought back Hitler’s forces during the Christmas of 1944, brave Ukrainian soldiers are doing the same to [Russian President Vladimir] Putin’s forces this Christmas. Ukraine holds its lines and will never surrender.”
