In the US mid-term elections 2022, eight Nigerian-American politicians have won legislative seats in different parts of America – Pennsylvania, Georgia, Minnesota and the District of Columbia (DC).
These eight Nigerian-Americans who emerged winners of legislative seats as State Representatives in their respective districts ⬇️
- Segun Adeyina: He won the legislative seat as Georgia State Representative. He contested under the Democratic Party to represent District 110. Experienced in databases, data management, IT strategy and system development.
- Gabe Okoye: He contested and won the legislative seat as Georgia State Representative. A District 102 Representative, a former Chairman of the Gwinnett County and a Democrat. He is the Essex Geoscience Chief Executive Officer.
- Solomon Adesanya: He won as a Georgia State Representative to represent District 43. Adesanya contested and emerged winner under the Democratic Party. He owns a Restaurant in Cobb County. One of his primary legislative focus is to protect women’s right to choose.
- Tish Naghise: She contested and won as a Georgia State Representative. Naghise won the legislative seat for District 68. She is a Democrat and own a transportation business called T & C Transportation. Holds a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Clayton State University.
- Phil Olaleye: He contested and won as a Georgia State Representative and will be representing District 59. Olaleye contested as a Democrat. He is the Executive Director of an Education non-profit outfit called Next Generation Men & Women, with the aim to close the gap of opportunity for under-resourced high school students in Atlanta.
- Carol Kazeem: She contested and won the legislative seat of Pennsylvania State Representative. Kazeem represents District 159 under the Democratic Party. She worked in the Healthcare field for more than 13 years in diverse ways. She promised to fight for $15 minimum wage, education equity, end to gun violence, environmental justice and so on.
- Oye Owolewa: He is a member of the Democratic Party. He contested and won as the US Shadow Representative from District Columbia (DC). Owolewa holds a Doctorate in Pharmacy from Northeastern University. He is committed to the fight against prescription drugs and climate change.
- Esther Agbaje: She contested and won a legislative seat as a Minnesota State Representative. She is a Democrat representing District 59B, which encompasses portions of North and downtown Minneapolis in Hennepin County. Agbaje holds a Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Political Science from the George Washington University, a Master of Public Adminsitration (MPA) from the University of Pennsylvania and a Juris Doctor (JD) from Harvard University. She is an associate attorney with Ciresi Conlin LLP.
