Professor Ebeku disclosed that the government will soon launch an enforcement taskforce that will ensure the policy is successfully enforced.

He clarified, the aim will be to make sure that the quality of water being consumed by the public reaches the standard required by relevant water laws.

The Commissioner, during a courtesy visit by the leadership of the Water Producers Association of Nigeria, Rivers State Chapter (WAPAN), to his office in the state capital, Port Harcourt, said, as a result of the fact that water is life, then, the provision of portable water is highly essential.

He also buttressed that, the lack of clean, pure and safe water can bring about several water-borne diseases.

Also, he charged the leaders and the general members of WAPAN to ensure strict compliance with the Rivers State Water Development Law of 2012, which ensures proper regulation of water production operations in the state, to avoid facing sanctions by the Taskforce.

He warned that the standard and quality of water produced in the state must be maintained constantly.

“Your contributions are recognised by the government but it is important for you to know that water is used for different purposes and of course the human body needs alot of safe water to survive,” he said.
