It was a well-deserved triumph over one of their top rivals as Jadon Sancho and Marcus Rashford both found the back of the net to help manager Erik Ten Hag grab his first three points of the new League campaign as Manchester United head coach.
Following Man United’s 4-0 fall to Brentford in their previous top flight encounter, it has been a week of intense pressure and criticism for the Red Devils, however, they responded with style and class to douse Jurgen Klopp’s side at the Theatre of Dreams and win for the first time in the new season.
Erstwhile Manchester United defender Gary Neville confessed to Monday Night Football: “I cannot believe what I have just watched.
“I’m absolutely stunned. I didn’t think it was possible tonight what I saw; I thought the players had cemented what they do, week-in, week-out over many months at the end of last season and the start of this season.”
Forward Jadon Sancho opened scoring for the hosts in the 16th minute and Marcus Rashford made it two in the 53rd minute.
Egyptian forward Mohamed Salah pulled one back for the visitors in the 81st minute, however, Klopp’s side were unable to clinch their first win of the 2022/23 Premier League season.
Former Liverpool player Jamie Carragher of SkySports said: “Manchester United got a lot of criticism for their defending at Brentford last week and Liverpool should be getting exactly the same treatment after this.”

Erik Ten Hag, in his post-match comments, told SkySports: “We can talk about tactics but it’s all about attitude.
“There was communication, fight spiriting and then you can see what they can achieve.
“I wanted a different approach and a different attitude and that is what they brought on the pitch. It is only a start. We can play with much more composure and much more danger. Be a team, and have a good spirit and that is what we saw today.”
