Arsenal’s Head Groundsman Steve Braddock dies after long illness

Steve Braddock, Arsenal’s Head Groundsman, has died after a long battle with illness, and the club has released a statement on the life and times of the “wonderful teacher and mentor”.

He joined Arsenal in August 1987. Born and bred a fan of the club. Steve got a job to be responsible for the pitch of the then Arsenal homeground ‘Highbury’ and ensured the pitch “became the game’s gold standard”.

A section of the statement reads: Steve ensured the Highbury pitch was perfection for our final season at the Stadium…

Steve dedicated his life to making sure our grass was always beautiful.

Our thoughts are with Steve’s wife, their daughters, family and friends.

In Steve’s memory, our men’s first team will be wearing black armbands…
