Australian Open 2023: Aryna Sabalenka discomfits Elena Rybakina to win Melbourne title

Aryna Sabalenka, Belarusian fifth seed, has clinched her first Grand Slam singles title by hustling back to defeat Elena Rybakina in the final of the Australian Open.

In a fascinating battle which showed the strength of both players, Sabalenka emerged victorious 4-6 6-3 6-4.

Due to her country, Belarus’ support of Russia’s invasion in Ukraine, Sabalenka’s victory was clinched under a neutral flag.

She hit 51 winners as her high-risk game in the city of Melbourne paid off.

Elena Rybakina of Kazakhstan could not add a second slam to her Wimbledon title.

Sabalenka filled with joy after winning, fell to the court and covered her face as she cried in celebration.
