With this outcome, Spain are through to the round of 16 of the tournament.

Teresa Abelleira opened scoring for Spain early, in the 9th minute.

Jenni Hermoso and Alba Redondo both scored twice in the 13th, 70th minutes and 69th and 85th minutes respectively to help the European side clinch their second consecutive victory of the tournament in Australia and New Zealand.

Spain have now netted a total of eight (8) goals and conceded zero (0) so far.

Spain manager, Jorge Vilda, said: “We haven’t seen the best version of Spain, that is absolutely clear.


“We have four days to improve, recover physically and mentally, and put in a better performance against Japan.”
