Tibet Earthquake: At least 126 people k*lled, more than 1,000 buildings damaged

Rescue workers are searching for survivors following a enormous earthquake that killed dozens of people and damaged more than 1,000 buildings in a remote region of Tibet, close to Everest.

At least 126 people were killed, 188 injured, after the earthquake hit the foothills of the Himalayas on Tuesday, according to Chinese state media.

Earthquakes occur regularly in the region, which falls on a major geological fault line, however, Tuesday’s was one of the deadliest in recent years in China.

The magnitude 7.1 quake, which hit at a depth of 10 kilometres (six miles), according to data from the US Geological Survey, also shook parts of Nepal and India, which neighbour Tibet.
