AFCON 2023: Nigeria 4(1)-(1)2 South Africa – ‘You have made us all proud, soar in the finals’ – President Tinubu

President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu has sent his congratulatory message to the Super Eagles of Nigeria following their qualification into the final of the 2023 CAF Africa Cup Of Nations (AFCON).

Nigeria reached the final of the tournament after beating South Africa 4-2 on penalties on Wednesday 7 February, 2024 at the Stade Bouaké; the encounter finished 1-1 after 120 minutes.

The President said, “You have made us all Proud to be Nigerians!”

Also, he encouraged them to go ahead and “soar in the AFCON finals”.

Defender, William Troost-Ekong, placed Jose Peseiro’s side in front in the 67th minute from the penalty spot, however, the Bafana Bafana hustled and equalized from the penalty spot in the 90th minute.

President Tinubu said: “From the Southernmost cape of Africa to the Plains of Mauritania and the coast of West Africa….

Nigeria will fight for the trophy when they clash against host nation, Ivory Coast, in the final of the AFCON 2023 on Sunday 11 February, 2024.

Ivory Coast defeated DR Congo in the semi finals by a lone goal on Wednesday 7 February, 2024.
