The unrest in Sudan started in April, 2023; the fighting between two rival factions of the military government in the North African country, the Sudanese Armed Forces under Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces under Hemedti.

The fighting has been concentrated around Khartoum and the Darfur region.

According to WFP: “#Sudan: For the first time since December, WFP reached families in Khartoum with urgently needed food assistance.

“To avert a hunger catastrophe, WFP and our humanitarian partners must have access to civilians trapped in conflict-hit areas across Sudan.”
