Bayer Leverkusen manager, Xabi Alonso, has said, playing against AS Roma in the Uefa Europa League 2023/24 semi final first leg is “a chance to do better”.

He made the statement at his pre-match press conference.
AS Roma will slug it out with Bayer Leverkusen in the Uefa Europa League 2023/24 semi final first leg at Stadio Olimpico, Rome, Italy on Thursday 2 May, 2024 at 20:00 (WAT).
At his pre-Roma press conference, Alonso said: “It’s important for us to be back here in the semi final, the last time hurt. Now we have a second chance against Roma. They are a different team, they have changed a lot. We are awaiting an intense game.”
On playing Roma once again: “I would say that it feels like a second chance. A second chance to do better. Last time we deserved at least a goal and take it to extra time. It’s football sometimes things don’t go on your side. It’s a great atmosphere here and it will be an important game but not decisive.”
On De Rossi: “We have had special moments together. I liked how he was as a player. This is his club and where he was a great player. He was a great champion as a player and he’s having an impact here. They try to play and have a clear idea. They are a brave team. Coaches from my generation are taking the next step. It will be great to see him tomorrow.”
