Hagari narrated, “Shavit continued to fight, save lives” despite receiving a “phone call where he was told the bitter news that his older and beloved brother had fallen in battle”.
According to Hagari: “Captain Shavit Ben Moshe this evening raised the beacon of the security forces on behalf of the IDF.
Shavit’s story is a story of bravery and courage, a story you don’t hear every day.
On October 7, he served as a platoon commander in the 890th battalion in the paratroopers brigade, and was sent along with his team to fight in the surrounding settlements.
When he arrived at Kibbutz Holit, he received a phone call where he was told the bitter news – the late Major Ariel Ben Moshe, an officer in the Joint Chiefs of Staff patrol and more importantly – his older, beloved and revered brother, had fallen in battle.
Shavit had the opportunity to retreat and stop – but he continued to fight, save lives and kill terrorists and even injured himself.
Shavit has always followed Ariel’s path, from his studies at the military boarding school, until he was recruited into the paratrooper brigade where Ariel began his military career and going to the army.
The values that led Ariel continue to lead Shavit as a fighter, commander and person.
Shavit, I am sure that the late Ariel looks down on you and is proud of you.
I am convinced that you are an example for commanders and warriors and I trust you to continue to lead.”
