Papua New Guinea Mass*cre: Gang k*ll women and children

Villagers in their dozens have reportedly been killed in a remote region of Papua New Guinea by a gang of young men who launched a series of attack.

Those who survived the massacre described hearing the cries of pain of their neighbours, and watching as others were speared as they tried to escape the gang in canoes.

According a report by local media, at least 26 people, encompassing children were killed.

There are fears the death toll may rise beyond the figure stated as search for survivors continue.

Volker Türk, United Nations (UN) Human Rights Chief, said the “shocking” violence seemed to be “the result of a dispute over land and lake ownership and user rights” and appealed to officials to “ensure those responsible are held to account”.
