According to statistics from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention updated on Thursday, there has been more than 180 reported cases of measles in the US in 2024.
It is a huge surge from last year, when only 58 cases were reported across the country.
Almost half of reported cases this year require hospitalisation for the purposes of isolation or to manage complications.
65% of this year’s cases approximately are linked with outbreaks, which the CDC describes as three or more related cases.
After vaccination, the risk of contracting measles lowers, medical professionals say.
