Cholera In Nigeria: ‘Stop open defaecation’

“Unsafe practices such as improper disposal of refuse and open defecation endanger the safety of water used for drinking and personal use”, the Nigeria Center for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) says.

On how to prevent Cholera, the NCDC cautions: “this rainy season:

  • Only consume water from safe sources
  • Stop open defecation
  • Dispose of trash properly
  • Ensure proper drainage of sewage

About Cholera:

According to NCDC: “Cholera is a water-borne disease, spread by contaminated food or water. Causes acute watery diarrhoea (watery stool), vomiting, and if left untreated can lead to death within hours.”
