Wild animals such as crocodiles, snakes and even Ostriches were seen on the streets after being forced out of their enclosures by the flood.

According to X user (@uncosnaija): “Maiduguri, the capital of Borno State, is experiencing flood levels not seen since 1994. It has affected the zoo in the capital, with wild animals seen on the streets.

Please keep the people of Maiduguri in your prayers. The entire state, including the Emir’s palace, has been flooded.”

Usman Tar, the state commissioner for information and internal security, via a statement on Tuesday, said: “due to the unusually high volume of water this year, we urge all the residents living along the river bank to take immediate action to protect themselves and their properties.

“The Alau Dam water has broken down another channel that is currently destroying farms and the water is heading toward the river bank.”
