Jose Mourinho’s Real Madrid grabbed a narrow victory over Inter in the League Phase match of the Uefa Champions League 2026/27 at Santiago Bernabeu on Tuesday 8 September, 2026.
France forward, Kylian Mbappe, opened the scoring for the home side in the 14th minute with an assist from Moroccan attacking midfielder, Brahimi Diaz; and in the 23rd minute, Federico Valverde scored the second for the hosts.
But, in the 77th minute, the Nerazzurri pulled one back through Brazilian defender, Carlos Augusto, with an assist from Argentine striker, Lautaro Martinez, however, it was not enough to inspire a comeback for the visitors.
Mbappe’s opener has now placed him level with Real Madrid Legend Raul on seventy-one (71) goals as the Uefa Champions League’s fifth-highest all-time scorer.
This victory is coming after Mourinho’s winning start in his second spell as Real Madrid manager was halted by a lone goal defeat in the hands of Real Betis in the La Liga match last weekend.
Mourinho, who joined Real Madrid from Portuguese side, Benfica, helped Inter to Uefa Champions League glory in 2010. The Portuguese coach made two (2) changes to his starting eleven (XI), with Trent Alexander-Arnold and Brahimi Diaz replacing duo Eduardo Camavinga and Arda Güler, both under suspension.
The Italian Serie A side, managed by Coach Cristian Chivu, kicked off the showdown excellently and forced Los Blancos Belgian goalkeeper, Thibaut Courtois, to make saves from Marcus Thuram and Lautaro MartÃnez before the home side clinched the lead against the run of play.
