A perfect comeback from injury for England forward, Harry Kane, as it was marked with a beautiful winner for the German Bundesliga side in Spain against the Los Blancos.
With an amazing strike, Kane netted the second as Bayern Munich grabbed a well-deserved advantage over Real Madrid in the Uefa Champions League 2025/26 quarter final first leg match on Tuesday 7 April, 2026 at Santiago Bernabeu in Madrid City.
The Englishman returned to action for Vincent Kompany’s Bavarians after a minor injury forced him to be missing in action when England locked horns with Japan in an international friendly – an encounter the Three Lions lost by a lone goal.
The issue also kept Kane away when Bayern Munich faced Freiburg in a Bundesliga showdown on Saturday at Europa-Park Stadium. Kompany’s side came from a two-goal deficit to emerge winners 3-2.
Kane, 32, was hindered by the home side in the first half, but, he registered some action in the build-up that led to Luis Diaz’s opener for the visitors.
Serge Gnabry provided for Diaz who netted a fine opener for Bayern in the 41st minute, and, just one minute after the break, Michael Olise assisted Kane, who converted to make it two for Bayern.
Kane netted the second with an amazing right foot strike that went into the bottom corner with no chance for Real Madrid goalkeeper, Andriy Lunin.
Bayern German shot stopper, Manuel Neuer, was forced to make four crucial saves to deny the hosts, including three (3) from former AS Monaco forward, Kylian Mbappe, but, the German side had chances to increase their tally.
Real Madrid, desperate to come back, brought on former Borussia Dortmund midfielder, Jude Bellingham, and the Three Lions player delivered a performance that lasted a short period.
And in the 74th minute, Real Madrid’s restlessness paid off when former Liverpool defender, Trent Alexander-Arnold, provided for Mbappe, who converted to pull one back for the Los Blancos.
Alexander-Arnold delivered a low cross that was turned in by the Frenchman.
Real Madrid kept mounting pressure on their German opponents, but, Kompany’s men held on and carted all three (3) points back home.
Tuchel at Santiago Bernabeu…
After falling to Japan in the friendly, England German head coach, Thomas Tuchel, made the trip to watch the clash at Bernabeu as the FIFA World Cup 2026 draws nigh with internationals in his sight – Kane, Alexander-Arnold and Bellingham.
Tuchel dropped Alexander-Arnold in his 35-man squad for friendlies against Uruguay and Japan despite the defender possessing enormous qualities.
Bellingham’s cameo appearance for Real Madrid on Tuesday night was very stunning, and Kane showed some class despite coming back from an injury.
Kane’s second half goal was enough for Bayern, however, the former Tottenham Hotspur forward was prevented from making any meaningful impact as he struggled in the first half.
